Natural Healing Energies

It was my research of sacred places that first got me interested in energy healing. I read about the invisible life force that has been known for thousands of years by many traditional cultures but has somehow been forgotten or discarded by modern science.

This energy is known by different names around the world: prana in India, chi or qi in China, ki in Japan, pneuma in Greece. I learned there are certain power places around the Earth that have been found to stimulate this life energy. For thousands of years, people have been making pilgrimages to these sacred sites for healing of their body, mind and spirit.

I was surprised to discover how widespread this knowledge has been since ancient times. For example, while traveling in Peru I saw an Inca carving at Sacsayhuaman, near Cusco, that clearly illustrates the seven chakras of the body, an important aspect of ayurvedic medicine from India.

One can put forward different theories about how it came to be that the chakra system was known to both Incas and Hindus. For example, were both areas populated by refugees from Atlantis? To me the explanation is not as important as the fact that two cultures in opposite parts of the world knew that the body has seven energy centers, which are essential to human wellness.

Suddenly Reiki, qi gong, tai chi and related energy work made sense to me. They all help to stimulate the circulation of this vital energy.

When people ask me how can I believe in this mysterious, invisible force I gently remind them how, to my grandfather, the idea of invisible waves that can be plucked from the air and transformed into words and music seemed like science fiction — until radio was invented. To my father, the idea of cooking food with invisible waves inside a box that stayed cool seemed impossible — until the microwave oven came to be.

Look at the places around the world where people continue to visit for the purpose of healing: Lourdes in France, Chimayo in New Mexico, Lac Ste. Anne in Alberta and Madron Well in Cornwall are some of the most famous. I believe there are earth energies at these sites that stimulate the life energy within the body — energy that promotes healing.

At an ancient Hawaiian sacred site on the Island of Moloka’i, I talked with a woman who told me that, after spending some time hugging a traditional healing rock, she was able to hear the beating of her husband’s heart — with an ear that was totally deaf! As this web site grows, it will include articles about reiki healing, pranic healing, shamanic healing, healing stones, healing crystals, sound healing, psychic healing, long distance healing, and related topics. I will share some of my personal experiences about healing energy as well as publishing articles from people much more expert than me.

This blog has been designed with features that make it easy for visitors to share their comments, and I hope you will consider contributing your knowledge and experiences to these discussions, for the benefit of others who will follow.
